Great Texas Magic Festival

Image
Even Captain America turned up for the show! That's me performing my walk-around magic at the Wylie, Texas magic festival last Thursday. The turnout was great, and everybody loved the magic on the street as well as the stage show at the Wylie Event Center. In fact, everybody in attendance loved the magic show so much, the Dallas Magic Clubs have already decided to put on another show next year! I'll have photographs of that stage show soon, so be watching.

Shoot Ogawa Lecture

Image
I just attended an awesome magic lecture by famous Japanese magician Shoot Ogawa, who visited the Dallas Magic Club to share some of his favorite secrets. I especially appreciated his version of the Chinese Linking Rings, which he calls "The Ninja Rings". He is one of the few magicians that can perform the classic linking ring trick with an audience volunteer holding the rings! If you know how it works, you can appreciate how amazing that is. If anyone is interested, we have another great lecture coming up on Sunday, November 1. Professor Lawrence Hass, associate dean of the McBride School of Magic in Las Vegas will be lecturing and releasing his new book Inspirations. E-mail me if you want more details.

Wylie Rodeo Performance

Image
The Great Texas Magic Festival in Wylie, Texas is off to a great start! That's me performing walk-around magic at the annual Wylie rodeo to promote ticket sales for the Night of Wonder stage magic show that will be held at the Wylie First Baptist Church Event Center on Thursday, October 29, from 7:30 until 9:00 pm. We also have strolling magic being performed on the streets and in several local restaurants the whole week from October 24th through the 29th. You can get more details and buy tickets to the show at TheMagicofWylie.com. Tickets are only $10, and we have several award-winning magicians scheduled to perform. This is a family-friendly show, so be sure to get tickets for the whole family. And, of course, I will be there during the week performing my close-up magic, so come on out and be a part of the magic! Looks like this make it all worthwhile!

Axel Hecklau Lecture

Image
Just attended a fantastic magic lecture here in Dallas by an old friend,  Axel Hecklau , a magician from Germany best known for "Newsflash", his instant torn and restored newspaper trick that he shared with us, along with many other amazing effects. My favorite was his "Knife Through Solid Spoon", pictured here. We also learned a really cool way to make a paper rose to give out as a gift. If you are interested in getting on the invitation list for upcoming lectures,  e-mail me , and I will pass your request along to the Dallas Magic Club.

Summer Splash Party

Image
I've just attended one of the most awesome parties ever, the annual Summer Splash party, hosted by local Dallas magician Dal Sanders and his wife Cinde. Professional entertainers and their families and friends come from all over the country to attend this party. That's me with fellow magician Daryl Sprout and his "lovely assistants" Penny the corn snake and Capone the lizard that appear with him in his Snake Encounters magic show. We also had fire jugglers that entertained us after dark, and I got to entertain guests with my walk-around magic. Thanks to Dal and Cinde for another successful party!

ADD Christmas in July Party!

Image
If you missed the Christmas in July party Friday night at RBC Dallas, you missed one fantastic magic show! That's me on stage with Heather and Reuben, who both volunteered to be my "lovely assistants" for the show. I opened the show with a new magic effect that I have never performed before, and it went over great! In fact, the show was such a huge success that the host of the show wants to promote my magic on her radio show, and I had several people ask me for my business card afterward, including two event planners, a mobile DJ, and a composer who writes music for a local Dallas band, who all want to network with me. Be watching for upcoming events.

Vocal Coaching at SMU

Image
That's me on stage in the Greer Garson theater at SMU in Dallas with my two lovely assistants Allisa and Isaac. In the audience, not pictured, is my new voice coach, Professor Anne Schilling, head of the SMU Speech and Voice department. She arranged this magic show for a group of her students so that she could listen to my voice on stage without a microphone. The show went very well, and afterward, I went home with a three-page list of homework! A special thanks goes to magician Trigg Watson who helped set the whole thing up, and took the time to attend the show and take a few photos.

Dallas Magic Clubs Annual Banquet & Award Ceremony

Image
I've just attended the Dallas Magic Club annual banquet and awards ceremony. That's me visiting with professional entertainer and party planner Cinde Sanders, who was responsible for my successful 60th birthday party. Dallas magician Trigg Watson won the trophy for "Best Magician in Dallas", shown here in the center being presented the award by Club President Frank Seltzer on the left, and two-time award-winning world champion Canadian magician Shawn Farquhar on the right. After dinner and the ceremony, Shawn treated us to an absolutely awesome magic show, and even agreed to stay in Dallas one more night to host a magic lecture the following evening. Everyone in attendance had a wonderful time, and the lecture was one of the most educational and entertaining ones that I have ever attended. I just had to get a photo taken of me with Shawn after the lecture; he really is one of the world's greatest magicians, and a great guy off stage, too. Thanks to the Dallas Mag

Best Magician In Dallas

Image
The Dallas Magic Club just held our annual contest for Best Magician in Dallas, and, of course, I entered the competition again. I can't believe that it has been a whole year since the last contest! The competition was even more fierce than last year, and everyone gave an outstanding performance. The bad news is, we won't know who won until they announce the winner at the Club banquet in MAY! I don't know if I can sit on all those pins and needles until then, but I will keep everyone posted as soon as I know the results.

Eric Jones Presentation

Image
The Dallas Magic Club just hosted another great magic lecture by master sleight-of-hand artist Eric Jones this past Sunday. Eric is not only a talented magician, but he is one of the best teachers on the subject of magic that I've seen. It was a very entertaining and educational event. If you are interested in magic and would like to attend future magic lectures in the Dallas area, drop me an e-mail and I will get you on the list!

Channel 33 News Appearance Upcoming

Image
That's me with Channel 33 news reporter Cristina Caballero. She and her camera crew visited our Dallas Magic Club meeting the other night, and I was one of several local magicians on the schedule to perform. I performed my version of a classic card effect known as "Card Warp". Yes, that is one single playing card, signed by Cristina, turned inside out as I passed it through my bare fingers! Afterward, I put the card in a frame and gave it to her as a souvenir. The show is called Newsfix, and our segment will be broadcast locally on CW33 this Thursday the 29th at 5:00 pm and 9:00 pm. Be sure to set your TV's to record it!
