Dallas Magic Club February Meeting

Image
Had a fantastic time at the Dallas Magic Club meeting on Tuesday! As the Club's official photographer, I hosted a mini-lecture on making your magic look better, based on photographs that I have taken of other performers on stage over the years. The lecture went well, in spite of the fact that we had problems with the stage lights. Wouldn't you know that we'd have issues with the lights on the night that the photographer was scheduled to be on stage!

Vinny Grosso Lecture and Impromptu Performance

Image
WHAT A WEEK!! The Dallas Magic Club was honored by a visit from Vinny Grosso , former Society of American Magicians national president, and the only magician to fool Penn and Teller while totally naked ! After the meeting, a few of us got together at Vernon's Pub to visit and talk magic, and I wound up getting invited to a dinner party in Vinny's honor the next evening, where I got to perform my Card Warp routine for everyone! Like I said, what a week!

Michael Ammar Lecture

Image
I just enjoyed one of the most entertaining and educational magic workshops that I have ever attended! That's Michael Ammar, one of the most talented performing magicians and teachers of magic in the business, teaching a group of eager students his new "Wine Glass Levitation". Imagine being able to approach a table, cover someone's wine glass with their borrowed napkin, and then levitate the glass with no prior preparation and literally no strings attached! You can even allow people to lift the napkin and look at the glass from underneath! This was just one of many "magician foolers" that Michael shared with us. Time to go to work!

Shoot Ogawa Lecture

Image
I just attended an awesome magic lecture by famous Japanese magician Shoot Ogawa, who visited the Dallas Magic Club to share some of his favorite secrets. I especially appreciated his version of the Chinese Linking Rings, which he calls "The Ninja Rings". He is one of the few magicians that can perform the classic linking ring trick with an audience volunteer holding the rings! If you know how it works, you can appreciate how amazing that is. If anyone is interested, we have another great lecture coming up on Sunday, November 1. Professor Lawrence Hass, associate dean of the McBride School of Magic in Las Vegas will be lecturing and releasing his new book Inspirations. E-mail me if you want more details.

Axel Hecklau Lecture

Image
Just attended a fantastic magic lecture here in Dallas by an old friend,  Axel Hecklau , a magician from Germany best known for "Newsflash", his instant torn and restored newspaper trick that he shared with us, along with many other amazing effects. My favorite was his "Knife Through Solid Spoon", pictured here. We also learned a really cool way to make a paper rose to give out as a gift. If you are interested in getting on the invitation list for upcoming lectures,  e-mail me , and I will pass your request along to the Dallas Magic Club.

Eric Jones Presentation

Image
The Dallas Magic Club just hosted another great magic lecture by master sleight-of-hand artist Eric Jones this past Sunday. Eric is not only a talented magician, but he is one of the best teachers on the subject of magic that I've seen. It was a very entertaining and educational event. If you are interested in magic and would like to attend future magic lectures in the Dallas area, drop me an e-mail and I will get you on the list!

Charles Gauci Lecture

Image
Well, I didn't think I would ever get to see Australian mentalist Charles Gauci again in Dallas, but lo and behold, he did return for another great and entertaining lecture! I am grateful to Charles for sharing some of his awesome secrets with me to help me improve my own magic show. By the way, the magic lectures that I attend are hosted by the Dallas Magic Clubs, and are open to anyone that has a genuine interest in learning the art and craft of magic. E-mail me if you want more info.

Wayne Houchin Magic Lecture

Image
I've just attended a lecture here in Dallas by award-winning magician, author, and magic creator Wayne Houchin. That's me on the left in the second photo, with Wayne on the right. I must say, this was one of the most entertaining and educational lectures that I've ever attended. Wayne kept us on the edge of our seats with his stunning magic effects, and I learned a lot of new material that I can use in my show. It is not easy to fool a room full of magicians, but Wayne certainly did! Thanks to Wayne and the Dallas Magic Clubs for hosting this excellent event. If you would like to attend a magic lecture, or if you would like more information on the local Dallas Magic Clubs, e-mail me at darylhowardmagic@gmail.com, and I will keep you posted on upcoming events.

Peter McLanachan Lecture

The Dallas Magic Clubs just hosted a great lecture by famous Scottish magician Peter McLanachan. That's me on the left in the photos with Peter, learning some really superb card magic. Thanks again to Mark Jensen and the Dallas Magic Clubs for hosting this enjoyable and educational lecture.
